What do people in Scotland think and feel about climate change?

We’re collecting stories from people around Scotland for a research project at the University of Glasgow.

The research explores what people in Scotland think and feel about climate change, and whether this has an impact on their mental health or emotional wellbeing.

We’re interested in seeing what we can learn from stories people write about climate change – considering what might be missed in other types of research into climate emotions.

What does the project involve?

We’re inviting people from around Scotland to write a story (up to 1,000 words long) about climate change.

You don’t need to have written before, or to have extensive knowledge about climate change we’re interested in hearing from a wide range of people with different feelings and experiences of Scotland’s changing climate. We’re not here to judge how ‘good’ your story is. If you’re new to writing, we’ve pulled together some helpful information on how to get started.

Stories can be fiction or nonfiction – focusing on your own experiences, or about a character you’ve made up – they can explore what the future might look like, or reflect on memories of time gone by. We’re open to hearing whatever story you want to write.

By creating space for reflection, imagination, and personal expression, we hope to understand better how people relate to climate change, and what difference writing about it makes to them on an individual level.

By contributing your story to this project, you will be helping research into climate emotions and mental health and wellbeing in Scotland, which may in turn change how organisations understand and offer support around these issues.
